Dear Members and Visitors
Welcome to Mahee Island Golf Club.
I would like to thank the members for offering me this position, it is an honour and privilege to serve the club as Captain for the year 2017.
These are challenging times for all golf clubs and Mahee Island is no different. It is with hard work from the council and the green keepers, that has maintained our golf club as one of the best 9 hole courses in Ireland.
This year will see the introduction of a new website and booking system through BRS. I would ask that all members embrace this system as it will make everyone’s access to the course much fairer. Our website will be more interactive and we aim to make a lot more use of social media to promote the club.
My main objective for the year will be to grow our existing membership. We will be holding many more open competitions to encourage visitors to play competitive golf at Mahee and for members to bring their friends to experience the excellently presented golf course.
Please don’t take my word for it, come and experience for yourself. The course suits golfers of all abilities and if you are having a bad day, you can take in some of the most beautiful scenery available on any golf course in Ireland.
Health and happiness in 2017
Ladies of Mahee,
I would like to thank the Ladies of Mahee Island for bestowing the honour of Lady Captain on me for 2017. I consider it to be a great privilege.
I joined Mahee in 2001 and have served five years on Committee, three of which were as Competition Secretary which I very much enjoyed.
Mahee Island is a magical gem of a golf course on an Island in Strangford Lough. When I told a friend that I played golf at Mahee, he said, ‘that is not a golf course, that is a tonic’. Certainly one is cheered up after a round of golf at Mahee. We have the finest views of Strangford Lough and the County Down drumlins from everywhere on the course. A big bonus also is that Mahee has its own ecoclimate. The rain clouds often pass over Mahee and descend elsewhere. Our golf course while being nine holes is still challenging, with some golf balls at times ending up in the lough or the corn fields! It is always maintained to a high standard and with the well drained fairways, is often open when other clubs are closed in inclement weather. So, if you have not played Mahee Island please do come, you are in for a treat and we can guarantee you a warm friendly welcome.
My main objective for this year is to attract some new members to the Club and consequently I am, together with my super Committee, organising a ‘Ladies get into Golf Programme’ at Mahee in conjunction with The Confederation of Golf in Ireland.
Our hope is that at the end of this programme we will have several new lady members.
I am committed to promoting, progressing and representing Mahee this year.
I wish all our Ladies a great golfing season. I wish our teams great success. I will be supporting them all the way. Remember, “the game is never lost till won”.
Health, Happiness and Success to all in 2017.
