Message from the Captains

Dear Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both new and existing members to the scenic and tranquil Mahee Island Golf Club for another busy year of golf.

Mahee Island Golf Club is famous for its panoramic views of Strangford Lough and surrounding areas. The Golf Course is maintained to an extremely high standard throughout the year thanks to the hard work and dedication of Course Manager Mr Wilson Gaw and his team, the slick, true greens being a test for any golfer in the golfing season.

To visitors and all those who use the club facilities a warm welcome is given by our Club Steward Mr Colin McCaw, who himself was raised in the local area and will always have time to answer any questions you may have about the club.

A fine way to finish your experience of this warm and friendly club would be a meal in our restaurant provided by Head Chef Mr Mark Spence and his team with Sunday Lunch being a speciality.

The Golfing season is almost upon us so its time to clean the dust off the clubs, polish the shoes and perhaps slightly more difficult, get some oil into those rusty swings.

I wish all team Captains, Player's and Caddies the best of good luck for 2010 and I am sure they will do the club proud.

One last thing to note Captains Day is on the 26th of June, which just happens to be my Birthday!

Looking forward to a successful year

Ladies,

Welcome to a new season of golf at Mahee and the second year of our website. Members who do not have access to the internet, or who prefer not to use it, can find all essential information relating to the Ladies’ section on the notice boards in the Ladies’ locker room.

For a more informal, witty and colourful up-date on club happenings you can find copies of the Mahee Newsletter on the coffee table in the Ladies’ locker room. Editor Christine Mitchell has produced two excellent issues thus far this season and would be delighted to receive any items, photographs and team results for inclusion in the next issue.

The season is well under way with a number of Monday competitions and inter club matches already completed. It would be great to see more ladies brushing off the grass of last season from their golf shoes and getting out on a Monday. The weather is steadily improving. Honestly I would like to extend a particular welcome to new members and remind them that if they need assistance to get three cards for handicap they can contact me to arrange a marker.

Catering is available from 12 noon on Mondays, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the wholesome cooking of Mark and Claire either before or after you play golf. It is also a good time to meet up with fellow golfers who are always ready to congratulate or commiserate as the occasion requires.

Finally a word of appreciation for the Team Captains. Thank you for the wonderful job you do. Our numbers are quite small at Mahee so please give your support to the captains if you are asked to play. The very best of luck to all our teams this year.

Enjoy your golf Ladies!
