Message from the Captains

Here we go!

We start another year full of hope and dreams and another year of playing good golf and maybe winning some of the big prizes. As your proud Captain I will be giving my full support to all the players as they represent Mahee in all competitions.

As you know our course is of a high standard and I would like to thank Wilson, Alistair and their helpers for all their hard work. Also for Colin, Jean and Mark for all their support.

As members will be aware Mahee Island Golf Club has entered a new agreement with the Chamberlain family, who have been our Landlords for the 50 years or so. In stead of paying £9000 per year as rent, we now pay a licence fee from which MIGC Ltd will pay all expenses relating to the running of the course. It is expected that members will not be aware of any change in the day to day running of the club. Members should realise that the more visitors they bring to Mahee and the more new members that we can attract the better the income for both Club and Company. This will result in the continued relatively low level of annual subscriptions. Members should also realise that the playing rights of all categories are not altered in any way by the new agreement.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Captain, Dr Peter Farling, for all his support and advice and also the President, office-bearers and Council for all their help.

Captain
Ladies of Mahee,

I wish to thank you wholeheartedly for electing me as Lady Captain for 2013 and with a mixture of excitement and trepidation I look forward to the incoming year.

The committee works as a team on behalf of all the members so that we can enjoy our golf and Mahee. This year has seen major changes in personnel; Yvonne Revill taking on the role of Secretary, Carrie Spence that of Handicap & Competition Secretary and we welcome Pauline Maguire and Hilary McHenry to our ranks. Along with out Lady President, Jean Rodgers and Vice Captain, Barbara Martin we will endeavour to do our best for you.

The changes that have taken place at Mahee in relationship to course management and landowner should not have any effect on the everyday running of the Club. There will be regular meetings with the new Mahee Island Golf Course Ltd and the Lady Captain will now be directly involved in these.

As to the future, my best wishes go to all our teams - thanks to those who have taken on the role of Captain, it will be worth the effort! Well done to all those who took part in the Winter Alliance this year and especially the ladies who played at Mahee in February pulling back the deficit to be just piped to the post by Spa.

My Captain’s day will be on 21st June - hopefully in glorious sunshine and our outing is to Galgorm on Thursday 8th August.

Mahee is a special place, the “Star of the County Down”. Sometimes I can forget how special until friends come to play and are blown away by its atmosphere. Our green keepers, Wilson and Alistair and steward Colin, and caterer Mark all play their part in the welcome visitors find at Mahee.

My prayer for all this year is good friendship, good golf and most of all good health to enjoy Mahee!
